How to take your school from a fresh portal to fully running, step by step. Start with the overview video below — then each step tells you exactly where to click.

1

Get your school portal

Video coming soon

Request your free portal from the home page. We set up your school at its own web address (like yourschool.cdlcompliant.com) and send you an admin login. Everything below happens inside your portal, and Settings → Getting Started walks you through these steps in order.

  • Your school gets its own branded address — students and staff log in there
  • The platform is free for schools; each student pays a one-time $35 access fee (your first 3 students are free)
  • Need another campus later? Settings → Locations lets you request additional locations anytime
2

Choose your content

Video coming soon

Your portal comes loaded with CDL Compliant's ELDT theory courses (Class A, Class B, B→A Upgrade, Hazmat) and CDL permit practice tests. You decide what your school offers.

  • Settings → Content Library — show or hide any course, test, or video for your whole school
  • Settings → ELDT Theory Courses — create your own courses with lessons and exam questions; for each one choose custom training (certificate only) or ELDT theory reported to the TPR under your school's TPR ID
  • Settings → Practice Tests — write your own tests with answer choices and explanations
  • Settings → Training Videos — add YouTube links or upload video files (thumbnails included)
3

Define your documents

Video coming soon

Your school decides which documents students must upload — a permit, medical card, or anything specific to your program.

  • Settings → Documents — create each document as a title plus instructions students will see; CDL Compliant provides no templates or standard forms
  • If a document is an agreement the student signs, paste the text and students print it, sign it, and upload the signed copy
  • You attach documents to programs in the next step, so each program asks for exactly what it needs
4

Build your programs

Video coming soon

A program is the package you sell — Class A CDL, an endorsement, or a custom bundle. Programs are what you assign to students, so set them up before enrolling anyone.

  • Settings → Programs → Create Program — name it and pick its type
  • Check off the ELDT courses, practice tests, and required documents that belong to it
  • Set behind-the-wheel hour minimums, price, deposit, minimum age, and schedule notes
  • Students assigned the program automatically get everything in it — no per-student setup
5

Add your team

Bring in your instructors and decide what they're allowed to do.

  • Settings → Instructor Management — add instructors or additional admins; each gets a login
  • Settings → Permissions & BTW Rules — school-wide hour minimums, sign-off rules, and whether students may log their own hours
  • Settings → Features — turn student self-scheduling on or off
6

Enroll your students

Video coming soon

Add a student, assign their program, and hand them their login — that's the whole enrollment.

  • Students → Add Student — enter their info, pick their program(s), set program cost and balance
  • You get a temporary password to give the student (forgot it later? Reset it from their student page)
  • The student logs in at your school's address, pays the one-time platform fee (after your first 3 free), and sees exactly what their program includes
  • Fine-tune anytime from their student page: lock features, hide specific courses, edit billing
7

Run your training

Video coming soon

Day-to-day training all happens in the portal, for you and your students.

  • Students take their courses, practice tests, and final exams from their portal
  • Schedule — book 1-on-1 sessions or post group sessions students can join themselves
  • Log Hours & Sign-Offs — record BTW hours and sign off FMCSA skills as students progress
  • Notes & Messages — keep records and communicate without leaving the platform
8

Stay compliant

Video coming soon

Every pass, hour, and sign-off is tracked for you — and the platform tells you when action is needed.

  • When a student passes a theory exam, your dashboard flags it for TPR submission — mark it submitted in Settings → TPR Compliance
  • CDL Compliant's courses report under our TPR registration; your own courses report under yours
  • Audit Center — a one-click compliance packet: training records, TPR history, roster, and curriculum, printable or exportable as CSV
